Easter wandering
After three weeks of discussing serious stuff, here goes something silly:
There are three things that I miss from my years living in Brazil(no, I really don't miss the constantly pleasant weather --- really): the first is the four days of Carnaval, a paid holiday when most people simply go out and party, while others prefer to travel somewhere quiet and just enjoy some peace and quiet (it is quite possible). Another one is the passion that takes control of the country during the Soccer World Cup every four years – the way that the country gets united behind the national team is something that is undescribeable unless you've been there --- during a Brazil game, you could arguably set up a picnic in the middle of Avenida Brasil in Rio and you'd be safe and sound... at least during the game's 90 minutes.
I can only imagine how it's going to be like in 2014, when Brazil hosts the competition.
Another thing I miss are the giant Easter eggs that are on sale during the period before Easter Sunday. Unlike the eggs you see in the United States, some of them might be as big as a melon, and they are filled with chocolates inside. They follow various themes and sizes - for instance, there is this Batman-themed egg . Like their US counterparts, they are hollow on the outside but inside there is usually a variety of chocolates, depending on the brand and type you buy...
In the Tri-State area, there are several places where you can find these – one is Rio Bonito Supermarket, located in Astoria, Queens ( ), and another is Seabra Supermarket in Newark, NJ . But there is nothing like the emotion I felt when waking up in the morning of Easter Sunday with my Easter egg, knowing that somany others in the neighborhood were feeling the same...
